A Gay Witch's Guide To Tantra

Have you ever wanted to explore sacred sexuality with another Gay male witch? Have you wished that initiatory Wicca was more inclusive of Gay men or that it taught you how to embrace the sacred elements of Gay sex as part of your own magic? Have you struggled to simply find magical or spiritual material that spoke directly to you as a Gay man?

I know I have. That's actually one of the reasons why I started Gala Witchcraft with my mentor and his husband back in 2014. I won't go into detail about that history here, since I talk a great deal about that topic in my Gay Witchcraft & The Male Mystery series of books. However, I will say that it's been quite a journey, and I'm glad that I choose to go on that journey.

Along the way, I've met some wonderful guys, many of whom have initiated into Gala and helped me to refine my theories about the unique power associated with Gay men. Together, we've grown our tradition, and, in the process, I've deepened my own spiritual practice as a Gay witch. It's been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life.

That said, the rewards did not come without hard work. To be honest, writing those three books was brutal on me. They forced me to confront my biases and my ego issues. In order to understand the topic in any real way, I had to admit where I was damaged, broken, and sometimes just plain wrong. At times, writing those three books almost drove me mad. They re-triggered me from some of the traumas I experienced dealing with the mundane Gay Community. (I also talk about those struggles within the three books.) Writing the books made the famed dark night of the soul look like high noon on a beautiful summer's day, and, I'll be honest with you again, I nearly threw in the towel several times.

As bad as all that sounds, I wouldn't change a thing about the process. It really was the only way I knew how to heal myself. Though it was brutal at the time, I appreciate the fact that I can look back and see my own healing unfold by reading through the three books in order. They sort of work like a published diary of who I was and what I did to recover my sense of self at the time.

Well … that got me thinking.

What would it look like to actually keep a diary of my experiences, picking up from where my books left off in order to explore my own personal practice as a Gay witch?

In Gala, we refer to this solitary practice as an Initiate's "hedge witch path," and we firmly believe that every witch (regardless of whether he is initiated into Gala or not, regardless of whether he is in a coven or working alone) must maintain his own solitary practice of witchcraft in addition to the material provided by whatever tradition he is initiated into.

With the publication of The Serpent Ascending: A Tantric Approach To Gay Witchcraft in April, I am finally in a position to do just that. Up until now, my own hedge witch path had to be put on hold in order to get the material out there for Gay witches to find their way to Gala, but with this third book, I can begin using the material to progress my own spirituality instead of simply healing the wounds of my past.

I always knew that this series would have at least three books in it. To be fair, now that I've written the third book, I can see even more books to come. However, what was most important to me when I started writing the books was that I be able to give Gay men a unique practice of witchcraft that honored and celebrated them (Garbed In Green), that I be able to help them find love by using that witchcraft (A Dangerous Wisdom), and that I be able to help them embrace the majestic ecstasy of their unions with each other once they found that love (The Serpent Ascending). Now that that's done, I can explore my own path and work on using the material I wrote to explore my own personal journey beyond the metaphorical hedge that witch's talk so much about.

I thought it might be nice to let my reader peak behind the curtain so to speak. So that's what I'm going to do. Over the next 12 months or so, I'm going to use this blog to journal about my experiences using Tantric practices to enhance my witchcraft through the initial stages of kundalini awakening. If you'd like to follow along, I'd love to share this experience with you.
